[ She should probably not try and break it just to be able to do that, right? Sure.
She spots a store that looks like it sells some kind of tool supplies and goes to grab his arm so she can drag him in to look. It's like a kid in a candy store and she's making a beeline for some clamps. ]
[ Squall follows behind her with that look of amusement. Chloe tried to act all cool or whatever, but seeing her get so excited like this over tools was kind of cute in a chloe sort of way anyway. He couldn't really judge because he was just as bad as she was with his own hobbies. ]
Huh...
[ Glancing around, he realized he's never really been in a tool like shop before. Everything in here was so shiny and interesting... ]
Luckily you don't need a shit ton of tools to do proper work, they're just all so tempting.
[ But getting everything she wanted versus everything she needed would probably be the difference between a nice gift and bankrupting Squall. So she's carefully looking over the C-clamps to hunt for the best price.
But she does see him glancing around out of the corner of her eye and smiles a little. ]
[ Squall jumped a little, not realizing that Chloe was actually looking at him at the time. He clears his throat and looks off to the other side of the room. Because somehow that doesn't make it obvious he was embarrassed being caught. ]
Just never seen a place like this before. Even... the man back home who upgraded weapons didn't have a work place quite like this.
[ She's biting down on her lip to keep herself from snickering. He cute. ]
Hard to picture upgrading stuff without tools when that's all I'm used to. Most of these things have been used to fix up everything in my world for... fuck, at least a couple centuries. They haven't changed too drastically, other than expanding in sizes to accommodate newer nuts and bolts and screws or whatever.
[ She grabs the C-Clamps she's happiest with, but there's like... four or five of them so now she's trying to find a basket. ]
Ninety percent of this stuff isn't used for welding, though. I'll come back and expand my tool collection once I start actually raking in cash.
I guess I've just never sat around and watched the guy at work. Usually if you give him the parts he does it on his own, but now... I'm kind of regretting not asking to watch.
[ because all of this kind of seems fascinating... ]
Well, even when I'm not teaching you welding stuff, if you ever wanna come hang out while I work, you're totally welcome.
[ She stands on her tiptoes as she reaches for a pair of pliers she likes, trying her best to not drop the clamps she's holding tight to her chest. ]
I used to watch my dad all the time. [ Success! The pliers are hers. She brings her feet flat on the ground again, staring at them rather than at Squall, because... talking about her dad is awkward, even if she's getting better at doing it more casually. ] He was our handyman, I guess. Used to fix everything that broke in the house. He taught me about cars and how to fix busted pipes and holes in walls or whatever. Didn't know it would come in handy so soon.
[ Squall nods a little as he listens in. Chloe almost seems a little uncomfortable but at the same time she almost seems a bit brighter as she talks about her father like this. He must have been a huge part in her life.
Squall holds out his hands for her to hand over something. No point in making her carry everything unless she really wanted to start juggling. ]
He... sounds like a pretty cool guy. The most I ever learned was how to patch up a stuffed animal from Matron.
[ She nods - her dad had been cool. At least in her eyes. She guesses it might have been different if she'd grown up and gotten to resent him like a proper teenager, but...
She goes to hand off a few of the clamps to him. ]
Patching stuffed animals is a super important life skill, at least. I saved many a wounded comrade teddy bear that way when they'd get accidentally caught up in some of my doll explosion games.
[ Squall snorts at the look she gives him which turns into a soft laughter instead. He expected the reaction, but the look she gave him was priceless. ]
Ifrit. He's like... a summon I guess you could say. He controls fire elements. I have a few that came with me from home, like him or Shiva...
[ Chloe's face falls just slightly and she goes to distract herself with the tools again, looking over more files to see if she can find one fine enough. ]
Yeah, well - I must be giving a pretty sugar coated impression then.
Fair enough. They do always say something about Grass is greener or something.
[ Honestly, if he were to pick anywhere it'd probably be the place they were currently living in. This world had so many things he's never been able to experience before, the number one thing being his connections with others. ]
[ She grabs a file finally, along with a couple of other tools near by it, before seeing if she can actually hunt down a torch in here. ]
I guess it's not the worst place ever, but... It's only a nice place if you're rich and you fit in. [ Neither of which described Chloe, clearly. ] It's kinda refreshing to be in a place where people wanna actually get to know each other and not just assume shit based off of how nice your clothes are or whether or not you've got the latest phone or whatever.
Huh. Maybe it wouldn't be that difficult for us to get along back in your world. [ He snorts a little, following behind her with a curious look. Look, these tools are kind of cool looking, okay...? ]
People like that drive me crazy. I'd probably want to punch someone like that if I could.
[ There's an amused smile on her face at that, a small shrug in response. She likes to think she'd get on with most of the people she knew here back home, but she was often quite a different person. Or at least made out to be a very different person by everyone around her.
She slows as she looks over a few hammers. ]
Yeah. I got expelled for doing just that, actually.

Re: action
[ Not that that kept him from keeping both of his blades in perfect working order... ]
action
[ But she'll take that for the green light it is and grins. ]
I promise I won't break it.

Hero is a totally overrated title. Least I could do for the unfortunate suckers when it was my fault.
