[The tug makes Sora pretend to wince but he laughs under his breath as he tilts his head towards the pulling. He reaches up to brush some of his brown spikes back out of his eyes.]

Course' I trust you enough. Just don't rip my ear off?

I can't really promise you that. The process will be pretty gruesome, you might even come out of it with a missing finger let alone your ear damage.

[ Squall laughs a little and that earlobe he was tugging on before gets a gentle rub with his thumb. He didn't want this to be scary for Sora. He might not trust him to do anything else if it ends up being a bad experience.]

Don't worry, we'll take it nice and slow.

Squall...

[SQUALL..............

Sora gives him a pretty big look for that before he fidgets a little under Squall's gentle touch. His ears really are sort of ticklish and sensitive.]

Maybe go nice and fast.

[He doesn't really want the pain to go slowly. Pierce him quick so it's over!]

You're not nervous are you, Sora?

[ He gives his earlobe another gentle touch. He couldn't help it. Sora pulled the cutest faces sometimes and when he found out what made him react, he always wanted to see it again. ]

I think I can do nice and fast though. It'll be a lot easier with this handy thing.

[ Squall gestures to the ear piercing tool. ]

When I did mine it was with a needle and ice.

[Sora makes a soft noise before he glances away with a slight pink across his cheeks. He doesn't swat Squall's fingers away from his ear.]

I'm not nervous-! My ears are just ticklish.

[That's totally a fib. He's nervous. The ticklish thing is real, though.]

... You actually pierced your own ears with a needle, Squall?

[ He let out a soft hum, tilting his head to get a better look at Sora's face. Maybe if he could distract him with a story or something he wouldn't even notice until the actual piercing happened. But what sort of story could he tell him... ]

Yeah.. I think it was because of Seifer. Something like him goading me into it.

[ It sounded like something Seifer would do anyway. Squall gave him an amused look, finally letting go of his ear in favor of shifting back and spreading his legs a little.]

C'mere.

You two got into arguments all the time, didn't you?

[Sort of like how Sora and Riku used to fight quite a bit when they were younger. Luckily it's not really like that anymore.

Sora shifts and he crawls up on the bed so he can sit where Squall indicates, settling there.]

Still can't believe you'd do that to yourself.

[Ow, much. Squall is brave.]

Yeah. He’s the only one back home who could get a rise out of me, and he made sure to do it on a daily basis.

[ He snorts softly as Sora comes closer to him. Squall tugs Sora into his chest to give him some comfort, aaand maybe just because he wanted to hold him for a moment. ]

It’s not as bad as you think. If you do it fast enough it’s just like getting a shot. A momen’t of pain and then it’s over.

[ He’s... not really helping much, is he. ]

It's like getting a - what-?!

[At least Squall is holding him because Sora nearly leaps off the bed?!]

[ Yep. Squall is so pro at this...

He wraps his arms around Sora tightly so he couldn’t run off. ]

That’s just the way I did it. With the tool it’ll be easier..!

[ He’s going to get elbowed in the face isn’t he.... ]

[Sora has half a mind to fight Squall off right now!! A shot?! He hates needles!! This boy who's been through more than a solider during a war--]

But is it still going to hurt the same?!

[He squirms in Squall's lap, pressing his back a little against Squall's chest.]

[ He feels a little guilty making him freak out like this, but it’s hard to hide the amusement on his face. Savior of worlds. Tiny little fight nugget who could kick the butt of most people on this island. Afraid of needles...

It was kind of cute. ]

I’m not going to lie and say you won’t feel it, but it won’t be the same as a shot.

[ His grip on Sora tightens and he leans forward to whisper into his ear. ]

If you’re brave for me I’ll give you a reward.

[Honestly. Sora is being a big baby.

His brain decides to short circuit for a moment when he feels Squall's grip tighten and his voice and breath against the shell of his ear. A few tiny sparks of red light appear and vanish as Sora shudders and presses his lips together...]

Ahh... Er- ... Okay.

[He takes a short 'brave' breath in.]

[ Squall gives him another squeeze, letting Sora try to relax before he does anything.]

Hey. Why don’t you ask me something. Anything you’d like to know.

[ Maybe if he told Sora something new about himself he’d be so focused he wouldn’t even notice the poke...]

I’ll answer whatever.

Anything?

[Sora hums a little as he settles back. He knows quite a bit about Squall. His life, his friends, how he grew up, what he was doing before coming to Verens... So, what should he ask?]

Why'd you pick to learn how to use a gunblade?

That was because of Cid, our headmaster at Balamb.

[ Squall shifts closer and rests his chin on Sora's shoulder, hoping that kept Sora from noticing that Squall's arms slowly upwrap from him. He'll blindly seek out that piercing tool as long as it kept Sora distracted. ]

It was around the time when we were all supposed to start picking what weapons we would like to train in, what we felt we would excel in. Cid came to me and brought up the Gunblade, saying he'd hope I would try it out.

[ There was a small pause, did he find it...??? Nope still patting around the bed for it. ]

Seifer caught wind of that and decided to take on being a Gunbladeist too. So that sort of sealed the deal for me.

[It seems to work as a distraction so far. The items that Sora left on his lap are there and forgotten as Sora listens and thinks.]

You two really do sort of sound like me and Riku when we were little.

[Sora won't say it out loud but he copied Riku a lot.]

[ When he realizes what he's looking for isn't on the bed he very delicately tries to grab the items from Sora's lap.

Snorting loudly, he lightly nudges Sora with his head.]

I feel like I should be insulted by that "when we were little" comment.

[Sora chuckles, blissfully unaware for the moment.]

Haha, I mean!! When you were a bit younger? Same thing. You decided to go through with it because he was.

It's insulting because Seifer and me are still at each other's throats, back home anyway.

[ Squall snorts again and nuzzles Sora's cheek a tiny bit. ]

I mean this was a little fresh before I came here you know.

[ Squall pokes his own forehead with one hand while quickly sneaking the device and earrings off of Sora's lap. ]

That's sort of like a friendship... Maybe?

[Sora's fought with plenty of his friends. None that gave him big scars across his nose, though...]

Okay. But there's nothing bad about some rivalry. Did it make you better with a gunblade?

I don't really know if it made me better. I think it's just more that our styles clash and our personalities clash even more. So even if we fight similarly it's still really different.

[ Squall quietly fidgets with the ear piercing device to get one of the earrings loaded into it. ]

[He vaguely knows what they're doing so Sora doesn't really notice the sounds of Squall getting the package ready. He shrugs.]

Maybe you were able to have your own style because of him, though. [Sora smiles a bit.] You really like gunblades, though. They're great. I like them too!

If you ever wanted to try it out, I do still have my revolver here.

[ While his new shiny Gunblade takes his favorite spot, his Revolver Gunblade hangs up on the wall right above where the head of the bed was. Almost like it was on display. ]

I kind of want to see if you could handle it actually.

[ He lets out a soft laughter, which happened at a good time, because it drowned out the tiny click of the piercing device. Squall thinks he's ready to give Sora the first one, but he wanted to make sure he was good and distracted. ]

[Sora tilts his head a bit. He ponders that note with a small shrug.]

It can't be much different than using a keyblade to aim magic, I guess. But I'm not sure I'd be that good at it. You know, Lightning uses gunblades too, huh?
